For my slideshow, I will focus on symbols of the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Certain symbols allowed people to know just what are they were in, Protestant controlled or Cathodic controlled, and were often symbols that had been used throughout Irish history. The best way to present this is by showing the wall murals that still all around Belfast and other areas of Northern Ireland.

The pod cast entitled “Indiana Jones: Saving history or stealing it ?” I found to be very interesting. I found that the pod cast was full of logos arguments, things that, though I had seen the movies, I didn’t really realize. For instance, the idea that Jones and Belloq were in fact very similar, even Belloq saying that he was just a shadowy version of Indiana Jones. I also never considered what Jones was doing as stealing history. I found this pod cast to be great just for making people rethink what they see in movies. Is the character always right in doing what is morally, ethically, and legally correct, or do we ignore this just because we like the character so much.

I also believe that in choosing such a popular film character as Indiana Jones, NPR was able to appeal to a larger audience. Had they chosen a film that was not as popular are as viewed as Indiana Jones, in particular Raiders of the Lost Ark, I don’t believe it would have been as meaningful.

Overall, I enjoyed the NPR pod cast, I found it top be not only informative but very interesting. An element of ethos was added when they spoke with real life archeologists on a dig

Ed, Maloney . A Secret History of the I.R.A.
New York. 2003. W&W Norton & Company, Ltd.

This is a very interesting book about the Irish Republican Army and the conflict in Northern Ireland as a whole. Mr. Maloney did a lot of research, inside and outside of Ireland to show the Army's ties to international terrorism as well as other well known organizations. I feel that this would make a good source even though it only focuses on one side of the conflict.

Tonge, Johnathon.  Northern Ireland.
Cambridge, UK. 2006. Polity Press

This is another great source for my topic. This book focuses on not only politics but also the armed conflict. It not only follows one side, but shows both sides. I feel that this book is a great source because is objective.

The Conflict in Northern Ireland.

For close to four hundred years, conflict has existed in Northern Ireland between Irish Protestants and their British supporters and Roman Catholic Irish that make up the majority of the Irish population. Only recently has the fighting died down, yet it is difficult to say whether it is over for good. In my web text, I wish to discuss the origins of this conflict as well as recent developments that have only just taken place this century.

This topic has always been an interesting one for me, due to the fact that my family was originally from Northern Ireland and are members of the Protestant Irish minority, who have for centuries fought a violent war against Roman Catholic Irish. It is also interesting to know that this conflict has had far reaching impacts that extend beyond Ireland. From murders throughout Europe, to illegal arms shipments being sent top Ireland from the United States, many Americans have no idea about this conflict or how it has affected many Americans.  And as over 40 million Americans can trace their ancestry to Ireland, it does affect many of us. Even American presidents and well known celebrities have been involved in some way or another in this struggle for what both Protestants and Catholic saw as a conflict to preserve their way of life.

I feel that this article is a good resource. It appears to be unbiased and is historicaly correct.

This information comes from a very reliable source, as well as one that has covered the conflict in Northern Ireland since BBC was first created.

Strees of Police Work

As most people know, police work is full of hazards. One of the hazards people don't think of is the stress that comes with the job. Stress from the job can lead to poor performance at work, health problems, and a poor homelife. I would like to research further how police officers handle their stress and keep it from ruining their personal lives.

A. I would like to study police work this semester. This is the field I hope to join once I finish college, and is something I enjoy learning about. Though I've learned a lot about this field there are still things that I wish to learn
1.) How does police work interfere with a police officer's family and social life?
2. ) I know some of the benefits of being a police officer, what are some of the drawbacks?
3.) What are some of the techniques police use?
B. The following are three topic I would like to study in particular:
1.) The history of police, if we don't know where we it came from, how do we expect to know what it will become in the future.
2.) The stress and dangers that comes with being a police officer.
3.)Police society, or the so called "Blue Wall."
